Natures’ Cycles

Nature provides us with an understanding of transformational cycles. These never ending repetitive rhythms are also known to us as seasons. The reason we have seasonal cycles are due to the tilt of the earths axis and the rotation of the earth around the sun.

Disconnection and Disease

Since time began, all forms of life we see here today, have sort from a carefully balanced ecosystem, human beings are just another form of life that has prevailed. Over centuries of existence, human beings have evolved to overrule and control their environment, civilising so much so, they have completely disconnected to the land they live on. In short, human beings have everything that they could ever need to survive and easily thrive, such as the basic necessities of shelter, heat, light and an abundance of food. However from having our basic needs met, we still find ourselves ill at ease physically, emotionally and spiritually.

We are disconnected. Disconnected from ourselves, our earth, our rhythms, our senses, our minds and our bodies. Disconnection causes pain, it creates contraction, wars, oppositions, ego, anger, fear and they block us from hearing our hearts desire and what our minds and bodies most need.

Connection however invites joy, expansion, warmth, openness, embrace, peace and ease. We are able to hear our hearts desires and what our mind, body and spirit most need. Think about the last time you met a dear friend, how did it feel to be connected?

Connection, Nature and Seasons

Connections with loved ones can feel like a warm embrace, a moment of calm with a smile, a fleeting sense of uplifting joy, lasting for only a few hours until a return into a disconnected world. How do we stay attuned?

Many ancient practices including acupuncture are used today, to help relieve pain and discomfort by re-establishing connection to mind, body and spirit. We use these practices to support a deeper connection to ourselves, to feel well and vital.

Our natural environment too, provides a deep source of emotional and bodily connection if we allow for it. Spending time in nature is simple, crucial and often overlooked, our connection to outdoor energy provides acclimatising solace. We are able restore and recharge in the ever changing seasonal arc throughout a year, listening into each season for it’s energetic wisdom.

At times we may just see trees, grass, plants, birds, rain and sun and think whats so special about that? However its when we listen in we are able to pay attention, notice the nuances of each day, week, month and the effect that has on our natural surroundings, as does so on us. We might ask, what do the birds have to say in Spring? Can we feel the expanding energy of the rose in Summer? Are we able to let go, like the trees of what we no longer need in Autumn? And what does holly bush have in store for us in Winter? Here lies our connections not only in our external world but also our internal self.

Harmony to Mind, Body and Spirit

Listening and living harmoniously to each of the seasons, bodes well for mind, body health and wellness. The Five Elements are an age old understanding of the natural world and energy. Over 2000 years ago in China, it was observed that five differing groups of Qi (energy) expressed a particular quality in each season. It was also understood that human beings were not separate from the natural world and that the nuances of the five differing seasonal energies could be seen, heard, smelt and felt not only in nature but in ourselves. The Five Elements are now days used to restore balance with Acupuncture, Feng Shui, Martial Arts, Cosmology, Food and Music. Observing and sensing the natural world and each of its seasons, we are able to attune into its energetic frequency.

Five Elements and the Seasons

It is here that Five Element acupuncture can allow for seasonal congruency of mind and body. We can also do this ourselves by tuning into the Five Seasons, for example, hibernating and becoming still in Winter and being active, having fun and socialising in the Summer. Being in balance with our surroundings supports mind, body and spirit, as we flow harmoniously with natural world.

The importance of using all our sense to pay attention and stay connected to the wisdom of nature and its season for better health and wellness.

We are not separate from this world we inhabit, we have just forgotten to how to listen.
